THE VESSEL “MV SIDER ABIDJAN” ANCHORS AT THE ABIDJAN PORT: A PROMISING FIRST CALL
The Abidjan Port had the honor of welcoming the vessel MV SIDER ABIDJAN, which made its maiden call to Côte d’Ivoire’s economic capital with 35,000 tons of wheat in its holds.
To mark this inaugural stopover, the shipowner Nova Marine Carriers, in collaboration with its key partners ICOMA LOGISTICS and GLOBAL MANUTENTION, hosted a welcome cocktail onboard the vessel on Monday, July 7, 2025.
On this occasion, the Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority, Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, was represented by Colonel AKAHI N’GUESSAN Franck André, Deputy Director in charge of maritime operations, environment, and the Fishing Terminal at the Department of Maritime Operations, Safety, and Environment (DOMSE). This event celebrated not only the arrival of the vessel named after Côte d’Ivoire’s capital but also the strategic importance of the Abidjan Port as a hub for trade in West Africa.
Taking advantage of this convivial moment, Mr. Erwann BARGUILLET, Head of Nova Marine Carriers’ Geneva office and in charge of African development, announced the Group’s intention to make significant investments in the Abidjan Port’s grain terminal. The ambition is to meet the growing demand for grain products in the region, improve operational efficiency, and attract more vessels and cargo, which could positively impact the local economy.
The representative of the Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority expressed gratitude to the shipowner for the interest and confidence shown in the Abidjan Port. He welcomed this initiative, stressing the importance of such investment for the development of the maritime sector, food security in West Africa, the transformation of the Abidjan Port’s logistics landscape, and the strengthening of its key role in maritime trade across the subregion.
