PAA – SITARAIL: RAIL TRANSPORT AT THE HEART OF THE COMPETITIVENESS OF THE PORT OF ABIDJAN

The Acting Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority, Mr. Kassoum TRAORÉ, received in audience on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Mr. Simplice ESSOH, Chief Executive Officer of SITARAIL (International African Rail Transport Company), as part of a courtesy visit marked by discussions on national and sub-regional logistics and economic challenges.

On that occasion, Mr. Simplice ESSOH warmly congratulated Mr. Kassoum TRAORÉ on his appointment as head of the Abidjan Port Authority, as well as on his designation as President of the Abidjan Port Community, an organization of which SITARAIL is a member. He also conveyed the greetings and encouragement of the company’s 1,500 railway workers.

In response, the Acting Managing Director of PAA expressed his satisfaction with the visit, which reflects the excellent relationship between the Abidjan Port Authority and SITARAIL, two strategic stakeholders in the sub-regional logistics chain.

Referring to the decisive role of rail transport in enhancing port competitiveness and facilitating trade flows with hinterland countries, Mr. Kassoum TRAORÉ emphasized that the sub-regional railway line, which originates at the Port of Abidjan, contributes to making the port an integrated logistics platform and an essential link in the supply corridor serving hinterland countries.

The discussions also provided an opportunity to address SITARAIL’s current activities and development prospects within a framework aimed at strengthening logistics performance and consolidating the attractiveness of the Port of Abidjan.

Through this meeting, the Abidjan Port Authority reaffirms its commitment to promoting close cooperation with all transport and logistics stakeholders in order to strengthen its status as a leading port and multimodal hub in West Africa.
