TACKLING CONGESTION WITHIN THE ABIDJAN PORT: THE PAA, CUSTOMS, AND THE IVORIAN SHIPPERS’ COUNCIL IN SEARCH OF SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS
On Monday, July 15, 2025, the Managing Director of the Abidjan Port (PAA), Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, chaired an important working meeting focused on the issue of congestion caused by freight trucks within the port.
The meeting was attended by a delegation from the Ivorian Customs Administration, led by its head, General Pierre Alphonse DA, along with Mr. Moussa DIOMANDÉ, Department Head at the Ivorian Shippers’ Council (OIC), and other key stakeholders. The aim was to find concrete and sustainable solutions to improve traffic flow in the customs-controlled area of the Abidjan Port.
Discussions helped identify the main causes of this congestion. These include insufficient parking areas, lack of coordination among logistics stakeholders, absence of traffic flow planning, and the prolonged parking of freight trucks.
In conclusion, joint proposals were made to address this issue, which impacts the entire logistics chain. An additional measure was also decided: the development of a dedicated parking space for trucks awaiting entry
