THE NEW AMBASSADOR OF THE EUROPEAN UNION VISITS THE PORT OF ABIDJAN
As part of taking up duty in Côte d’Ivoire, H.E. Mr. Irchad Razaaly, the new Ambassador of the European Union (EU), paid an official visit to the Port of Abidjan on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. He was received by Colonel Emmanuel Coffi, Director of Maritime Operations, Security and Environment (DOMSE), representing the Managing Director of the Port of Abidjan.
A key player in regional maritime trade and a major logistics hub in West Africa, the Port of Abidjan continues to pursue an ambitious strategy of modernization, security enhancement and continuous performance improvement, in line with international standards. This meeting provided an opportunity to present to the European delegation the results achieved by the port platform, as well as ongoing and upcoming structuring projects.
Discussions also focused on programs supported by the European Union related to port and logistics activities, namely CALAO, dedicated to strengthening the Abidjan–Lagos and Abidjan–Ouagadougou corridors; SEACOP, focused on maritime security and combating illicit trafficking; and SCOPE Africa, a program aimed at modernizing port operations in several African countries. These initiatives are essential levers for improving trade fluidity, enhancing port security and increasing the regional competitiveness of the Port of Abidjan.
The visit made it possible to assess the progress of these projects and identify new opportunities for technical and operational cooperation in support of sustainable development and regional integration.
The meeting concluded with a tour of port facilities, offering the Ambassador of the European Union an overview of the Port of Abidjan’s strategic infrastructure and modern equipment.
This official visit reflects the strength of the partnership between the European Union and the Port of Abidjan and confirms the strategic importance of this cooperation for financing, supporting and ensuring the success of structuring projects, in line with the European Global Gateway strategy and national economic and logistics development priorities.
