AWARD CEREMONY FOR THE WINNERS OF THE MISS MATHEMATICS 2025 CONTEST: THE ABIDJAN PORT CELEBRATES FEMALE SCIENTIFIC EXCELLENCE
In a packed “Kodjo Ebouclé” hall at the Treichville Palace of Culture, the award ceremony for the winners of the Miss Mathematics 2025 contest was held on Thursday, July 17, 2025. This prestigious event was placed under the high patronage of the Minister of National Education and Literacy and the committed sponsorship of the Managing Director of the Abidjan Port.
The ceremony brought together a host of high-ranking personalities, including Mr. Patrick ACHI, Special Advisor to the President of the Republic; Mr. ZORO Bi Épiphane Ballo, President of the High Authority for Good Governance; and Mrs. Anastasie KACOU SEPOU, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Minister of National Education and Literacy, representing Professor Mariatou Koné.
The Managing Director of the Abidjan Port, Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, alongside his protégées, warmly congratulated “those who shone in 2025 with their outstanding performances.” He praised the Miss Mathematics contest, initiated by Professor Saliou TOURÉ, President of the Miss Mathematics Society of Côte d’Ivoire, describing it as “a reference and model in scientific education in Côte d’Ivoire.”
“Mathematics is fundamental to the qualitative development of our countries. All states that have become global references have built their progress on science. By supporting this contest, we are planting the seeds of the future,” affirmed Mr. Hien Sié.
To the laureates, the patron of the ceremony urged them to persevere on this path, also taking the opportunity to commend their parents, who play a crucial role in their children’s education.
In his address, Mr. Patrick ACHI emphasized the urgent need to give a strategic place to science, technology, and digital innovation, especially for young girls. He stressed that science, particularly mathematics, is a true lever of economic transformation for the future.
The 2025 edition of the contest recognized 41 winners, selected from over 700 candidates nationwide, with the ultimate crowns going to Miss KOUADIO Ézéchiel, Miss 9th Grade, and Miss ASSI Sarah Eunice, Miss Senior Science. Both are students at Sainte Marie High School in Cocody, Abidjan, and embody female excellence in mathematics.
In addition to its unwavering commitment, the Abidjan Port honored the laureates with donations of IT equipment and financial support. The institution also renewed its financial commitment of 25 million CFA francs per year to the Mathematical Society of Côte d’Ivoire, through 2027.
This commitment was applauded by Professor Saliou TOURÉ, founder of the contest, who expressed his gratitude to the Abidjan Port for its consistent, faithful, and priority support for this major educational initiative.
This sponsorship by the Abidjan Port is part of an ambitious civic policy aimed at promoting academic excellence, encouraging young girls to pursue scientific careers, and thus actively contributing to the sustainable development of Côte d’Ivoire.
The Miss Mathematics contest, launched in 2000 by the Mathematical Society of Côte d’Ivoire, seeks year after year to make mathematics a driver of transformation for a modern and developed Côte d’Ivoire.
