ABIDJAN PORT AUTHORITY STRENGTHENS CITY–PORT COOPERATION AT THE 20TH WORLD CITIES & PORTS CONFERENCE IN NEW YORK
New York, November 21, 2025 – Abidjan Port Authority (PAA) really made an impact at the 20th World Cities & Ports Conference, organized by the AIVP in partnership with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC). Over four days, discussions focused on the future challenges of port territories under the theme:
“Ports, cities, climate: cooperating to innovate and adapt.”
The PAA delegation took part in the proceedings alongside the First Vice-Governor of the Autonomous District of Abidjan, Mr. Paulin Danho, illustrating the growing institutional convergence between the city and the port.
The Autonomous District of Abidjan joins AIVP and signs the 2030 Agenda
A major highlight of this edition was the official announcement of the Autonomous District of Abidjan’s membership in the AIVP. This integration, supported by Abidjan Port Authority, paves the way for strengthened cooperation in the areas of planning, innovation and sustainability.
Building on this membership, Abidjan Port Authority and the District of Abidjan signed the 2030 Agenda, a shared commitment framework aimed at accelerating:
· sustainable urban and port planning,
· the development of the blue economy,
· inclusive governance in the face of climate challenges.
A program shaped by climate, urban and technological challenges
The conference featured plenary sessions and workshops bringing together institutional stakeholders and international experts. Discussions focused on:
· financing City–Port infrastructure,
· energy transition in the maritime sector,
· the contribution of digital technologies and artificial intelligence,
· biodiversity preservation,
· climate resilience of port territories.
The Port City Labs showcased innovative initiatives such as the redevelopment of the Brooklyn Maritime Terminal, port and urban mobility solutions, and new practices for recycling dredged materials.
A technical visit to the Brooklyn Navy Yard and Newlab provided participants with insights into advanced port innovation ecosystems.
A strengthened commitment to port modernization
Through its participation, Abidjan Port Authority highlighted the transformations undertaken in recent years: terminal modernization, digitalization of operations, certified environmental initiatives, and a reinforced competitiveness strategy.
The conference concluded with the presentation of the Antoine Rufenacht Award and a session dedicated to future cooperation prospects between cities and ports. This edition confirms Abidjan Port Authority position among ports committed to sustainable transformation and marks a new phase of collaboration with the Autonomous District of Abidjan under the 2030 Agenda.
It should be noted that the 20th edition, which has just concluded in New York, also officially designated Dunkirk, France, as the host city of the 21st World Cities & Ports Conference in 2026.
