A NEW 12,000-TON DOCK TO BOOST SHIP REPAIR CAPACITY AT THE PORT OF ABIDJAN
The Abidjan Ship Repair and Industrial Maintenance Company (CARENA) took delivery on Monday, October 20, 2025, of a brand-new 12,000-ton floating dock.
This true technological gem — 144 meters long and 48 meters wide — will make it possible to lift larger vessels out of the water, thereby strengthening the shipyard’s operational capacity.
The result of an investment of 12.5 billion CFA francs, this state-of-the-art 12,000-ton dock complements the two existing docks with capacities of 2,000 and 10,000 tons.
Acquired by CARENA, a subsidiary of Africa Global Logistics (AGL) and SOFIA, both specialized in ship repair in West Africa, this new facility further consolidates the Port of Abidjan’s position as a major maritime hub in West Africa.
The dock will accommodate more vessels, reduce intervention times, and offer enhanced ship repair and maintenance services.
The acquisition of this ultra-modern equipment is fully in line with the vision of Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA), which focuses on the continuous modernization of port infrastructure and the strengthening of the Port of Abidjan’s competitiveness.
