PORT OF ABIDJAN: A NEW 12,000-TON FLOATING DOCK TO STRENGTHEN CARENA’S OPERATIONAL CAPACITY
The Abidjan Ship Repair and Industrial Works Company (CARENA) presented on Monday, November 3, 2025 its new floating dock with a capacity of 12,000 tonnes to stakeholders of the Ivorian port ecosystem.
The result of an investment of CFA 12.5 billion, this floating dock—144 meters long and 48 meters wide—significantly enhances CARENA’s operational capacity. The company now operates a fleet of three floating docks: 2,000 tonnes, 10,000 tonnes, and the new 12,000-ton unit.
According to CARENA’s Managing Director, Mr. Jean-François Arhant, this procurement marks a major milestone in the company’s ambition to consolidate its industrial leadership and effectively respond to the growth in maritime traffic, characterized by the arrival of increasingly larger vessels along the West African coast.
For her part, Ms. Asta-Rosa Cissé, Regional Director of Africa Global Logistics (AGL) Côte d’Ivoire–Burkina Faso, co-shareholder of CARENA alongside SOFIA, emphasized that this new equipment strengthens CARENA’s industrial capacity and demonstrates AGL’s continuous commitment to supporting the economic transformation of Côte d’Ivoire and the sub-region.
The Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority, Mr. Hien Yacouba Sié, indicated that this new industrial asset will help enhance the performance of the Abidjan shipyard, the competitiveness of the port, and the economic vitality of the Ivorian and regional maritime sector.
He commended AGL for its commitment to supporting the development of the Port of Abidjan through this strategic investment, which generates added value for the entire port community.
Finally, Mr. Hien Sié expressed his gratitude to the Minister of Transport, Mr. Amadou Koné, for his unwavering support for the performance and modernization of the Port of Abidjan.
On behalf of the Minister, Mr. Coné Dioman, Chief of Staff, welcomed CARENA’s initiative and congratulated all stakeholders on the success of this acquisition. He noted that the Port of Abidjan is now positioning itself as a regional hub in ship repairing, thereby confirming its strategic role in the maritime dynamics of the sub-region.
