GREEN AND DIGITAL INFRASTRUCTURE: THE PORT OF ABIDJAN SHOWCASES ITS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT MODEL IN MACAO
The Managing Director of the Abidjan Port Authority (PAA), Mr. Kassoum TRAORÉ, participated in the 17th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum & Exhibition, held in Macao, China, from June 10 to 12, 2026.
The Ivorian delegation was led by the Minister of Infrastructure and Road Maintenance, Mr. Hien Yacouba SIÉ, and included the heads of the major public enterprises under the supervision of the Ministry.
Held under the theme “Enhancing Connectivity for Green and Digital Infrastructure,” this high-level event brought together government officials, investors, international financial institutions, and key players in the infrastructure industry. It served as a privileged platform for discussions on sustainability, technological innovation, and the digital transformation of infrastructure.
For Côte d’Ivoire, participation in this event represents a strategic opportunity to showcase the significant progress achieved in recent years in the field of economic infrastructure, driven by the vision of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Alassane OUATTARA.
As a major contributor to this national momentum, the Abidjan Port Authority occupies a central position in the country’s trade activities. As Côte d’Ivoire’s principal port and a true engine of its economy, it handles nearly 78% of the country’s external trade volume and stands as one of the leading logistics hubs in West Africa.
For more than a decade, the Abidjan Port Authority has been implementing an extensive modernization programme aimed at strengthening its competitiveness, increasing its operational capacity, and integrating the latest international standards in sustainable development and digital transformation.
This commitment has notably enabled it to become the first African port to obtain ISO 14001 certification, the leading international standard for environmental management systems. This distinction reflects the port authority’s ongoing commitment to sustainable management that balances economic performance with environmental preservation.
The commissioning of the Second Container Terminal (TC2), designed in accordance with the highest international environmental standards and awarded the “Green Terminal” label, also demonstrates the Port of Abidjan’s determination to anchor its development firmly within a framework of ecological transition and innovation.
On the sidelines of the forum, the Managing Director of PAA will have the opportunity to share Côte d’Ivoire’s experience in the ecological transition of port infrastructure, present the performance of the Abidjan port platform, highlight its flagship projects, and showcase the numerous investment opportunities available to international partners.
Meetings scheduled with several major industry players are also expected to contribute to strengthening existing partnerships and exploring new avenues of cooperation in the fields of port digitalization, smart infrastructure, integrated logistics, and green technologies.
Through its participation in this major international event, the Abidjan Port Authority reaffirms its ambition to strengthen its position as a leading logistics and maritime platform in Africa, serving the economic development of Côte d’Ivoire and regional integration.
