THE ABIDJAN PORT AUTHORITY STRENGTHENS ITS SECURITY FRAMEWORK WITH THE UNITED NATIONS SUPPORT

The Abidjan Port Authority (PAA) hosted a strategic meeting with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the World Customs Organization (WCO), as well as administrations involved in the security chain.

At the heart of the discussions were the assessment of the needs of the administrations engaged in the Passenger and Cargo Control Programme (PCCP), as well as the conditions required for the establishment of a Port Control Unit.

The meeting was attended by several PAA officials, notably Colonel COFFI Yao Emmanuel, Director of Maritime Operations, Security and Environment and Port Harbour Master, Dr. Titi PALÉ, Commercial, Marketing and Communication Director, Colonel LATH Alfred, as well as representatives of the PAA Special Police Unit, the PAA Gendarmerie, Customs, and the Water and Forests Department.

This working session provided an opportunity to assess the existing mechanisms and identify areas for improvement in the fight against illicit trafficking, particularly drugs, weapons, and fraudulent financial flows.

The United Nations delegation, led by Colonel KOUADIO Aké José-Nicole, recalled the strategic importance of the PCCP, deployed in eighteen countries across West and Central Africa, in securing logistics chains through intelligence-sharing, inter-agency cooperation, and the use of advanced technologies.

Within this framework, the establishment of a Port Control Unit was identified as a key step towards improving the efficiency of targeted inspections, securing cargo flows, and facilitating legitimate trade.

This initiative will contribute to strengthening the position of the Abidjan Port as a major logistics hub in the West African sub-region, while enhancing its resilience against transnational threats.
