Launch of SARA 2023: Abidjan Port Authority takes part in this key event for agricultural experts
"African agriculture faced with the challenges of internal and external shocks: identifying structural innovations to improve agricultural sectors and sovereignty." This is the theme around which the 6th edition of the Salon International de l’Agriculture et des Ressources Animales (SARA) will be held for ten days, from 29 September to 8 October 2023. The event opened on 29 September 2023 at the brand new Abidjan Exhibition Centre, in the presence of the President of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, HEM. Alassane OUATTARA.
At his side were the Vice-President of the Republic, Tiémoko Meyliet KONÉ, the Prime Minister, Patrick ACHI, the Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, KOBENAN Kouassi Adjoumani, the ministers SIDI Tiémoko Touré, of Animal and Fisheries Resources, Laurent TCHAGBA, of Water and Forests, Jean-Luc ASSI, of Environment and Sustainable Development, as well as several other members of the government and presidents of institutions.
This year, the Netherlands, the country in the spotlight of SARA 2023, was represented at the opening ceremony by its Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Quality.
As a true benchmark event in sub-Saharan Africa, the SARA aims, as it does every year, to showcase, promote and develop all the riches of Côte d'Ivoire's agricultural, livestock and fisheries sectors. SARA is also an opportunity for professionals to exchange experiences, forge partnerships and establish business opportunities.
The Abidjan Port Authority (PAA) is taking an active part in this international event, with a stand not only as a sponsor, but also to showcase the potential of the Abidjan Port, Africa's leading tuna port and 2nd largest world exporter of canned tuna products. The Abidjan Port Authority also supports the agriculture and fisheries sectors by acting effectively in the distribution chain.
Speaking on behalf of the President of the Republic, SEM. Alassane OUATTARA, Prime Minister Patrick ACHI indicated that in order to maximise the effects of the vitality of the Ivorian economy, and to take account of both opportunities and threats, the Head of State has decided to speed up the implementation of programmes to meet the challenges of the times, and to steer future generations towards the major areas that will make Côte d'Ivoire, with its agriculture, a leading global player.
To this end, the Head of State, through the Prime Minister, paid tribute to the farmers who, through their work and self-sacrifice, create wealth and contribute effectively to improving the living conditions of the people of Côte d'Ivoire and the sub-region.
In his speech, the Minister of State, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, KOBENAN Kouassi Adjoumani, said that the President of the Republic had urged the ministers to embark on a new shift to make agriculture not just food self-sufficient, but also, and above all, an agriculture that provides more jobs, more added value, and generates income to have a lasting and qualitative impact on the lives of producers.
SARA 2023 saw a number of innovations for this 6th edition. These include a high-level panel featuring agriculture ministers from several countries renowned for their agricultural achievements, a day dedicated to young people, and a photo exhibition looking back at previous editions of SARA.
It’s worth noting that the PAA has been a partner of SARA, West Africa's biggest agricultural event, for several years now.
