The working program of the second day of the 39 th PMAWCA’S council was quite full for the delegations in Accra.
After the courtesy call of ports’ Managing Directors to Mr. Mahamudu BAWUMIA, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, the delegation met once more in the conference Hall of Ghana Shipper’s House in order to continue their discussions on the optimum management of the port estate.
So, the discussions dealt with the need to work out master plans in order to plan for port’s expansion forecasts. This decision making tool is to be preceded by a feasibility and a profitability study based on a traffic projections analysis. Moreover, the experts strongly recommended that the State should get involved in securing lands for the development of port activity. This recommendation will make it possible to preserve port estate faced with the exponential growth of cities.
The other issue raised at the meeting was the automation of procedures. According to port experts, the use of information and communication technology for the dematerialization of operations would be highly beneficial in terms of time saving and reduction of waiting time and ,consequently , ease port operations.
A guided tour of the port of TEMA marked the end of the day.
